An introduction to a great game

Golf - An introduction to a great game by Bernie Wiemers

The game of golf is a fantastic sport, if you decide to take up the game you will be rewarded with the benefits of exercise, fresh air, and the opportunity to make new friends.

The main reason I like playing golf is that it also gives me time to clear my mind, this time is valuable as it allows my subconscious mind to mull over a problem while I am clear and relaxed.

Like anything you approach in life, your attitude and expectations will determine your enjoyment of the game.

Take stock of your personal traits. Are you overly competitive? If you are, remember the road to a low handicap is littered with bad shots, bunkers, water hazards and triple digit scores on your round. If you want to master this game you will have to commit a lot of time to practice.

Don't be too impatient, enjoy the game, and welcome every hook, slice and 3 putt as a learning opportunity. Even Tiger Woods needs a coach to help him with his game.

If you like to meet new people, golf provides you with social interaction opportunities. You will get to meet new people in a setting in which you both have an avid interest. This makes for easy conversation and more opportunities to improve your game.

Most clubs offer single players the opportunity to play a round together, if you would prefer to play alone just mention this to the club pro when arranging your tee time.

How much golf equipment do you actually need?

Golf can be a very expensive game, but there are affordable options. A high-end set of clubs can set you back several thousand dollars. But, a good used set will only cost you a few hundred dollars.

Many golf clubs also allow you to rent golf clubs, golf bags and golf carts. I recommend this approach as it is a great way to introduce yourself to the game without costing you a fortune. You can always purchase your own equipment If you decide this game is for you.

It is a good idea to visit golf stores and club pro shops before you buy your clubs. You can test out different types of clubs, get to know the different types of grips available, learn the difference between steel and graphite shafts, and determine which club length is best for you.

You can also learn about the type of golf ball that will best suit you as a beginner. It is not well known, but matching the golf ball and it's compression will help you to get the most out of your game.

When you are choosing a golf bag you will first need to decide whether you are going to walk or ride in a golf buggy, you have a choice of a carry or cart bag. Golf bags are available in a range of materials, so choose one that is suited to the climate in which you will play most of your golf. Golf shoes are also important, make sure they are comfortable and waterproof.

You should also make sure you purchase a good Umbrella, as you never know when the weather may change. But a word of warning here, never, play golf if there is storm activity, as your golf club makes a very attractive lightning rod!

If you are going to play 18 holes, I recommend you buy a cart bag and a good cart . A good cart will make the game more enjoyable and will save your back. You will thank me when you have finished your first round.

Should you take lessons from a golf professional? It really depends on your budget as Golf lessons are expensive. But, if Golf lessons are within your budget, they may be worthwhile. You will find that Golf lessons will raise the standard of your game quickly.

A more affordable way to take lessons is to purchase one of the many training programs that are available on dvd and video. Many seasoned golfers use these programs to raise the standard of their game and new golfers can learn at their own pace. You can also purchase a lot of second hand golf instruction manuals that can show you how to improve your game.

Another great way to learn golf is to purchase one of the many computer golf games that are on the market. These games will not improve your physical golf game, but they will let you develop an understanding of the rules.

Like any game, the most important element is the player. Before you lift a club, you need to develop the right mental attitude. Make sure you remain positive, quiet your mind and envision your shot before you hit the ball. A good mental game is half the battle on the road to a lower handicap.

This article has covered the basics of getting started in the game. Hopefully it will have provided you with an incentive to try the game of golf. So, what are you waiting for? Get out there and enjoy this great game!

All about golf gadgets

All about golf gadgets by Acario Daire

Golf gadgets are things are interest you and are useful while playing golf. You find them in many varieties and they surprise you by coming in various sizes like the stars in the sky. They are made to make the crazy game of golf more fun, a lot less strenuous and simply easier to play. They are made in all the crazy ways possible, using all the imagination and all the possible ideas they get. Unlike short-game training devices or swing aids they do not work directly on teaching you the proper techniques of the golf swing. They are excellent presents that are regularly gifted to each other on Christmas. No family goes without getting at least one gadget. They are also taken to be of traditional importance.

For most of the golfers after receiving the gifts, it becomes even more important for them to play well. The expectations that are on them become more heavy than usual, and they try much harder with more determination. Some might feel embarrassed to receive the golf gadgets, but some may think it is funny to receive a golf gadget which might help them in making their swing better. It is a known fact that gadget addicts go to any extent to buy the new gadgets that comes up. Some say gadgets help them improve their game and so buy the gadgets. But it is a fact that nothing can improve your play than a straight hard practice that nobody really wants to do let alone has time for.

Most o the gadgets you find in the market have some annoying faults, or do not work properly. But that doesn’t mean that none of the gadgets work properly. Some gadgets work and do help in improving your game, while some are just made for fun and do not work. This is the reason the golf gadgets are not wide in circulation. Few of the items include suction cup on the grip of your putter that makes it easier to pickup your ball form the hole without bending over. Another good one that is almost essential to every player is the divot repair tool that can come in many shapes and styles. You also have the Brush-T that is said to make contact with the ball less inhibiting by making the tee flexible. One other must have for the average golfer is the groove cleaner to help remove the dirt from your clubs so you can hit a crisper shot.

The most important thing that we should always remember is that these golf gadgets are mainly meant for fun. Very few of the gadgets can you say really help you. There is nothing but practice which can help you improve your game. They are always great to have or to make you enjoy your play. When ever you think it is fun to have one just pick it up and go ahead and have fun. But do not expect that you would be able to make your play better by using the gadgets.

Golf balls of history

Golf balls of history by Acario Daire

History:

It is always suggestible to know what the game is about before you try and learn the game

1. Until the early17th century, People used wooden balls for playing golf. Then the Featherie ball was invented. A Featherie is a hand sewn cowhide bag stuffed with goose feathers and coated with paint. The Featherie remained the standard ball for more than two centuries, due to its superior fight characteristics.

2. In 1848, Robert Adam Paterson invented the Gutta Percha ball. Gutties had textured surfaces to improve their aerodynamic qualities and where also cheaper to produce. They only replaced feathered balls completely within a few years.

3. In the 20th century, multi layer balls were developed, first as wound balls consisting of a solid or liquid-filled core wound with a layer of rubber thread and a thin outer shell. This design allowed manufacturers to fine-tune the length, spin and “feel” characteristics of balls. Wound balls were especially valued for their soft feel.

4. These days golf balls are made of cores of titanium compounds, hybrid materials, softer shells and a more pressurized core. They usually consist of a two-three, r four layer designs, consisting of various synthetic materials like surlyn or urethane blends.

Characteristics of modern golf balls:

• The minimum of allowed diameter of golf ball is 42.67mm and its mass may not exceed 45.93g.

• Modern golf balls have a two, three, or four layer design constructed from various synthetic materials.

• The surface of the ball usually has a pattern of 300-400 dimples designed to improve the balls aerodynamics.

• Materials and the method of construction used greatly affect the ball’s paying characteristics such as distant trajectory, spin and feel.

• Harder materials such as surlyn are used, which result in ball’s traveling longer distances.

• Softer covers such as balata tend to generate higher spin, more “feel” and greater stopping potential.

Aerodynamics:

• When we hit a golf ball, the impact which lasts less than a millisecond, determines the ball’s velocity. Launch angle and spin rate, all of which influences its trajectory.

•The order to keep the aerodynamics optimal, the ball needs to be clean; golfers can wash their balls manually. Mechanical ball washers available.

• Dimples are designed to increase the shape and lift and drag forces by modifying the behavior of the boundary layer. It should be noted that drag and lift forces exists also on smooth balls. Dimpled balls fly farther than non dimpled balls due to the combinations of two effects.

•A ball moving through air experiences two major aerodynamics forces.

1.lift

2.drag

3.Drag slows the forward motion. Whereas lift acts in a direction perpendicular to it. The magnitude of these forces depends on the behavior of the boundary layer of air moving with the ball surface.

• The backspin as we discussed before generates the lift by deforming the airflow around the ball. A back spinning ball experiences a upward lift.

• After knowing all this you can be assures that when you play and not get the ball into the hole, you will know where you went wrong.

Golf for Your Health

Golf is Good for Your Health

Everything about our lives is busy. We not only do our work at work now a days, but carry work with us. Cell phones, video conferencing and wireless Internet allow work to be done anywhere and anytime. Technologies advancements have helped business reach across the globe and do more work with greater speed than ever before. Yet, some businesses are seeing a decrease in workers productivity. A person can find themselves asking, "how can this be?"

Well, technology allows people to complete tasks with less physical exertion. Escalators, elevators, and cars make it easy to get where you are going without moving very much. We even have buttons to open car doors for us and save the time and effort to do it ourselves. Along with the weight control benefits of exercise lost due to all this technology, we also lose the benefits for reducing stress that come from exercise. And with stress is on the rise for many Americans these benefits are greatly needed. Stress reduces work productivity and causes businesses millions of dollars in lost work due to this reduced productivity and absenteeism associated with stress
Lucky for the golf lover, golfing is not only recreational, but also a great healthy activity. A key to success in using golfing to reduce stress is to get all the exercise out of it that you can. If a person walks the golf course they walk 4-5 miles. Even though it is stop and go walking, it is still beneficial. An average American needs to take 10,000 steps a day to maintain weight, that is about 5 miles. Golf is the perfect solution for the goal to move more. Unfortunately, there is starting to be a trend to use a cart while golfing instead of walking. It has been said, "walking is the way that golf is meant to be played." Supporting this statement is that fact that participants in the PGA tournaments are required to walk the course. Part of playing the game is having the endurance not only to play, but also to travel in between holes. Playing traditional golf, including walking the course, also shows respect for the game.

Other benefits of walking, other than reducing stress, are time to unwind and slow down. Because most people are busy all the time, and always in a hurry to get to the next task. Walking the golf course allows a person to relax and take the time to fully enjoy what they are doing. When you have a cart, you quickly get in it to move quickly to the next hole. The person who does this robs them self of the time to look at the course and enjoy being outside. Slowing down gives you the time to think, contemplate and figure out life's problems. Stress is reduced not only for the body, through exercise, but also the mind through pondering. If you aren't able to walk the entire time due to lack of conditioning or poor health consider these suggestion
1) walk 9 holes, use a cart for 9 holes<

2) if golfing with a partner each walk half the time and use the cart half the time<
3) take someone with you as a driver, to transport only between holes
4) start by walking everything you can other than the actual travel to each hole

5) Take the stairs more often, park further away from the fronts of businesses, and take a 10 minute walk on your lunch break to work up to more physical endurance.
6) Take time to slow down, enjoy the course and get all the benefits that golf has to offer.

Swiss Ball Exercise For Golf To Improve Core Strength

Doing Russian Twist on Fitness Ball Can Improve Core

Swiss ball exercise for golf stimulates the core very effectively. The swiss ball is also referred to as a stability ball, fitness ball or exercise ball. So if you hear any of these terms, you'll know it's the same piece of fitness equipment.

This ball can be used extensively for all your ab (core) work as well as many different aspects and phases of your golf swing. You can lie on it (e.g., crunches, back hyperextensions); sit on it (e.g., rotational movements); put your feet on it while your upper body is on the ground (e.g., bridges); and put your hands and arms on it while your feet are on the ground (e.g., planks).

By implementing swiss ball exercises into your golf routine you will be enhancing not only your core strength, but your core stabilizers, balance, coordination and body awareness, which are all very important components for optimal golf performance.

Another great benefit is affordability and portability. Swiss balls can be found in most fitness equipment stores and even Target stores, usually for less than $30. They are inflatable, making them easily portable to take on the road when you travel - just deflate and pack in your suitcase.

• Keeping your hips up, turn your shoulders to the right so they are perpendicular to the ground (photo on right).

• Twist back to the starting position, then twist to the other side.

• You can do 10 twists to each side for a couple of sets.

Benefits to the Golf Swing
• Improves rotational strength and speed.
• Strengthens and protects the spine from injury.
• Utilizes the arms and the core as one, similar to your golf swing.
